The international debt crisis is wreaking havoc, fueling resource extraction, climate breakdown, ecological destruction, and global inequality. The stakes couldn’t be higher. The Global South is crushed under $13 trillion in debt, trapped by exploitative systems built to enrich Global North institutions. In 2023 alone, sub-Saharan Africa spent over $25 billion servicing debt, three times what it spent on healthcare! This unjust system drains resources from essential services, perpetuates colonial dominance, and leaves those least responsible for climate change most vulnerable to its impacts.

This year, being a Jubilee year is our chance to demand systemic change rooted in justice, equity, and land restoration. Debt cancellation isn’t just economic! It’s a fight to dismantle colonial structures and reclaim our future.

This year, these global mobilizations will take central stage as we unite to confront these intertwined crises. Join us and be part of the movement for real climate justice!

Jubilee of Workers

May Day is a powerful symbol and an unparalleled opportunity to unite diverse voices from all faiths and regions worldwide. It’s a moment to highlight the deep connections between debt justice and workers' rights while standing in solidarity with labour movements resisting exploitation and systemic inequality.  European Debt for Climate chapters will mobilize calling on the Catholic Church to amplify the moral imperative for debt cancellation and economic justice. We urge climate and social activists everywhere to organize solidarity actions and bridge the divide between workers in the Global North and South.

The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), Seville, Spain

This UN-led summit is a critical opportunity to challenge exploitative financial systems and demand the unconditional cancellation of Global South debt. By addressing systemic issues like wealth inequality and climate collapse, we can push for the dismantling of unjust financial frameworks. Debt for Climate will join allies across Europe, taking to the streets to amplify our call for justice and ensure that the voices of those most affected are impossible to ignore.

COP30 - Belém, Brazil

This year’s COP30, hosted in the heart of the Amazon, is a pivotal moment for global climate stability and the defence of Indigenous knowledge. Brazil’s leadership underscores the urgency of debt cancellation and climate justice for the Global South. While COP30 may not be a decisive policy space for debt, it is an unparalleled opportunity for grassroots and Indigenous movements to mobilize, amplify demands, and build powerful alliances. Let’s make the voices of the Global South impossible to ignore. Join the Latin American Caravan and take action for debt and climate justice!

G20 Summit – South Africa

For the first time, the G20 lands on African soil, again another moment to push debt cancellation onto the global agenda. With the African Union now holding a permanent seat, this is a chance for African nations to challenge the exploitative financial systems and Debt for Climate will mobilize across the continent and beyond, demanding it’s time to cancel the debt, dismantle colonial economic structures, and put people and the planet before profit.

Stand with us and demand an end to this unjust system. Together, we can cancel the debt, dismantle colonial structures, and fight for a future where people and the planet come before profit.  JOIN US AND TAKE ACTION WITH US THIS YEAR!
