One way to challenge BlackRock could be to increase transparency on the beneficial owners of BlackRock’s debt holding in countries at risk of default.

I view debt cancellation as a mean to achieve the goals of ending the subjugation of Global South economies to Global North financiers and facilitating the stewardship of natural resources by indigenous communities. These goals are incompatible with the existence of hegemonic private financial agents such as BlackRock and with tax havens.

It is not by chance that transnational companies exploiting natural resources in developing economies establish their domiciles in tax havens, nor is it by chance that BlackRock invests in these companies.
